Naming is a way of framing or setting context, an expectation – a mental map of another person. We use names like brother, sister, pastor, friend, mom, dad, etc… in addition to our own personal names.  Most of us carry multiple names, and each one gives us another view or window into our roles and purpose.

What about Jesus? What names have you given Him? Prophet, wise man, Son of God, Savior, King? Even before He was born, Jesus was foretold as the coming King. From the outset, His Kingship was made explicit.

Luke 1:30-33

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” NIV

The introduction of Jesus to His mother declares his Kingship, His reign.  Consider what Jesus as King looks like in your life.  Does this give you peace? Frustration? Fear? Joy? Can you find a space to surrender?
