If Not Me, Who?

“If the future’s looking dark
We’re the ones who have to shine
If there’s no one in control
We’re the ones who draw the line
Though we live in trying times
We’re the ones who have to try
Though we know that time has wings
We’re the ones who have to fly” ~ Neil Peart

I often think about the lyrics to this Rush song when things aren’t going the way I’d prefer them to. Admittedly, there are times when I get so exasperated and frustrated that I really do just want to throw in the towel … only to realize that would just mean more laundry to do. But seriously, there have been times where I just wish someone else would jump in and take over. Then I remember that quote “If not me, who? If not now, when?” That’s the time I realize that I (well all of us, actually) have been given a huge responsibility by God to be the first responder, to act when called upon. Yes, I’m aware that there are times when I put the “phone” on mute, but God in His sovereignty is quick to set me straight.

Isaiah 6:8 says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Wow … talk about on it! Isaiah wasted no time in responding to the Lord’s command. That’s how I want to be! I don’t want to be “that guy” that goes, “Uh … wait, was that really God, or did I just think that?” No, I want to be… wait, scratch that, I AM NOW the guy who jumps at the sound of the Lord’s voice! That’s my prayer for myself and for you this week, that you really listen and hear what God wants to tell you! This could be the start of some exciting times, my friend!

Walking with you,

Dan
