THE REVEAL SEMINAR

WHAT IS THE REVEAL SEMINAR?

The Reveal Seminar is an opportunity to explore the patterns in your life that are working both for and against the vision you have for your personal and professional commitments and relationships.  It is a reflective and insightful mirror that allows you to recognize any attitudes and beliefs you have about yourself, others, or circumstances.  Once you recognize those attitudes and beliefs, the seminar is designed to support you in aligning those areas with your vision in order to have it happen. The goal of Reveal is to equip you to have radical transformation towards your vision, in a way that produces tremendous value and results for yourself and for others.

The Reveal Seminar is open to everyone ages 18+

WHAT IS THE OVERALL STRUCTURE?

The Reveal Seminar takes place over three consecutive days and a follow-up four-hour session (generally Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the follow-up session a week to ten days after).

Each day begins at 10:00 a.m. and typically ends at 10:30 p.m. the first two days, and the third day ends at 8:30pm.

While in the training, you will have the opportunity to engage in interactive exercises, lecturettes, small group and one-on-one conversations.  Breaks are approximately every 2-3 hours, with an extended dinner break.

WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE REVEAL SEMINAR?

Ground Rules:  The purpose of these rules is to help you and the group work together to accomplish your goals.  On the first day, the Trainer will ask that you agree to several simple ground rules; things like being on time to the training etc…

Mini-Lectures:  The Trainer or participants may offer points of view about different subjects.  Whether you agree or disagree is your choice.  Be willing to discuss and explore your perspective with others in the group.  The value will be in getting clear about what you really do believe and testing out how you stand for what your believe.  The Trainer will speak about things that relate to a Christian’s life of love and forgiveness.  The main standard to measure our relationships with is “love your neighbor as yourself.”  It is a starting place, a foundation for us to learn how to live and love other people.

Sharing:  Sharing is voluntary.  Sharing can happen one-on-one, in small groups or with the whole group.  All during the training you will have a chance to know yourself better by sharing, talking about what you are thinking, what you are learning and hearing about your own and others’ experiences.  Just like in life, participation equals value!  The more that you participate the more value that you experience and the more you create for others.

Small Group Exercises:  You will, at different times, meet with a group of about 4-6 other participants for casual discussions or specific relational exercises.

One-on-One Interaction:  In order to make progress, you may be asked to answer a number of questions, tell a story, complete sentences or take on a particular body position (like standing up).  You will have an opportunity to see new solutions for the problems and issues that you struggle with and to support the other participants to do the same.  Sometimes teens find this an intense or emotional experience.  Please be honest about your feelings at all times.

Listening:  To increase your ability to listen carefully and to discover how well you listen occasionally the Trainer will request that you close your eyes.

Interaction with the Trainer:  At times you may be talking directly with the Trainer.  The Trainer will challenge you to look at your life in terms of personal responsibility, to consider what prices you and others pay for your decisions, to consider where you play the “victim” and where you take responsibility for your choices.   You may feel challenged, anxious and uncomfortable when looking at your life and your choices from other perspectives or working with things that you are not used to addressing.

Music:  Music is an important part of the seminar.  The music is adapted to many preferences and styles and is always thematic.   You are encouraged to listen to the words as well as the tune.

Homework:  During evening or meal breaks throughout the training you will be asked to complete written homework.  The homework is designed to prepare and support you for the next phase of the training.  It will usually take at least 30-45 minutes to complete each time.

Worship:  You will discover and explore your own creative and powerful expressions of worship and have the opportunity to be involved in individual and group worship during the training.

Challenge:  During the training all parts of your being will be engaged and challenged: intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually.  You may experience thoughts, feelings or sensations that are new or unique.  This is an exciting learning experience that will include a high degree of personal challenge.  Your participation is your choice.  Think about the opportunity to confront your struggles, fears and limitations head-on and go for it!

Training Syllabus

DAY ONE

INTRODUCTION TO TRANSFORMATION

Learn the spiritual and relational principles of experiencing and living out a changed life. We focus the foundational realities God has sown into the universe, allowing us to co-create something new in any arena of life. This is the groundwork for the Reveal Seminar. Principles include sowing and reaping, prices and payoffs, interrogating current reality and exploring internal conversations.
Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 2 Corinthians 3:18

EXPLORING TRUST

Trust is a key component of any relationship. The strength and type of trust that exists in any relationship – personal, professional, spiritual – determines the quality of that relationship. Often, the preconceived notions we have about trust; who receives it and how; provide a view into the way we naturally relate to others. We provide an opportunity to engage with this conversation and to get clear about what you’ve decided about trust, and how that could be impacting your day-to-day life.
Psalm 9:10, Proverbs 3:5-6, Proverbs 11:13

THE ANATOMY OF A STRONGHOLD

Strongholds are systems of belief underpinning our actions. Many of them lie in our subconscious and remain unexamined. By noticing the patterns present in our lives, we can begin to identify some of the drivers of our behavior.
Proverbs 23:7

THE POWER OF CHOICE

Participants engage in activities regarding the power of choice, and how the way we relate to our choices can result in either freedom or bondage. The trainers will lead a conversation around attitude, best summed up in this quote by Charles Swindol: "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a family, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes."
Deuteronomy 30:19

CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE, CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Have you ever noticed how two people can go through the exact same event and they can look radically different from each other once on the other side of that event? The way you relate to your past, as well as your current situations and relationships, will dramatically impact your life. Your patterns of thinking about yourself, others and circumstances are at the driver’s seat of your life, and this is a chance to see what those patterns are so that you have the power to choose.
Romans 12:2

DAY TWO

LIVING WITH INTENTION

At times, we attempt multiple actions or behaviors to fix a situation or relationship that isn’t quite working the way we want it to, only to end up right back where we started. We have an opportunity to reveal the power of your intentions and equip you to both notice your intentions, as well as how to get clear when your intentions conflict with each other.
Proverbs 24:8, Joshua 24:15, Ephesians 1:9, Hebrews 4:12

THE POTENTIAL IN PROMISE

The essence of any relationship is created and shifted in how we hold our word, both with others and ourselves. Jesus, himself, is known as The Promise. This is an opportunity to experience to new levels of integrity, noticing strategies that interfere with living out vision, and overcoming fears of confrontation.
Ecclesiastes 5:4-7, Mathew 5:33-37, Deuteronomy 23:23

STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT

When things are in the dark they’re naturally hard to see, and they often create stumbling blocks. The same is true emotionally and spiritually. When there are areas of your life hidden from you or others, they inevitably create stumbling blocks to your freedom. This time is an opportunity to release the weight of what we have been carrying internally, and to step into the freedom of the light.
I John 1:9, James 5:16, Proverbs 28:13

THE GAME OF LIFE

GAP Community’s trainings are based on the philosophy that experiential learning is the best way to get an accurate picture of how you are showing up and what your patterns are. This section of the training gives great insight into just that. An exercise in honesty, and a real-time glimpse into the ways you think, feel, and respond.
James 1:23-25, Matthew 7:20, Ephesians 2:10, James 1:22

DAY THREE

OPENING UP

At this point in the training, a multitude of things will be coming to your attention… patterns, beliefs you have about yourself, others, and circumstances, as well as how you’ve been showing up with people in your life up until now. This is an opportunity to share in the larger group, or in the smaller break-out groups what God is revealing to you, and to be a gift to others in your sharing, as well as in your listening to them.
2 Cor. 12:9 – 10, 2 Cor. 4:7, James 5:!6

CREATING ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

This is where the “rubber meets the road.” Transformation is just a nice idea if there are not practical commitments and promises to back it up. The trainers will lead you in a conversation around passion, vision, and a rigorous intention to risk for the sake of others.
Galatians 6:7, Galatians 5:13, Ephesians 4:1

THE GIFT OF FEEDBACK

If you are showing up differently with others than how you see yourself, would you want to know? Feedback is simply data. Data that informs you of other’s experiences and is a gift to consider from another’s perspective. In addition, you are a gift to others when sharing your feedback to them as well. This simple exchange can unlock powerful insights for you to see yourself more fully and to be connected in the gift of both knowing someone and being known.
Proverbs 19:20, Proverbs 27:6, Proverbs 27:17

STOP.  LOOK.  CHOOSE.

In any given moment, we are having exchanges with people around us. Brennan Manning, author, would say that “there are no neutral exchanges.” That each interaction is either creating possibilities in the life of the person in front of us, or closing those possibilities down. From the barista at your favorite coffee bar, to your family, co-workers, and friends, this exercise will bring revelation to the exchanges you have had with various people in your life, and opens up the power to choose to create life when you’re present with others.
Philippians 2:4, Galatians 6:2, Galatians 6:9-10

CELEBRATING LIFE

Reveal sheds light on the blind spots and allows you to be your fully authentic self, loving, giving, and trusting abundantly! We have an intentional and meaningful time of sharing and creativity with many of your family and friends present to join in the gratitude and celebration!
